Types of Fence Gates

Your gate should always blend in seamlessly with the rest of your fence, and the first decision you’ll have to make is the material:

• Wood
• Vinyl
• Aluminum
• Chain link

This should be a fairly easy pick because it should match whatever material you used for your fence design. However, you have a lot of other options when it comes to your fence gate that you may not have even though about:

• Single walk gate – a single walk gate is your standard fence gate. It is the same height as the rest of the fence and only has one swinging door. It can feature a number of design elements from latticing to arched tops and much more.
• Double gate – a double gate is just like the walk gate described above except that it consists of two swinging pieces. Sometimes this is a purely aesthetic design, but other times a double gate is necessary when large machinery (such as a riding mower) needs to be moved in and out of the gate with ease.
• Garden gate – a garden gate can be installed with or without a fence and is often used at the end of a walkway or into a garden. It could be flanked by a fence, shrubbery, or something else altogether!
• Privacy gate – generally installed with a privacy fence, privacy gates are usually over 5 feet tall and provide added security.
